Blast Off with Brilliance! ESB Science Blast 2026

4th Mar 2026

6th Class in Timahoe National School have been hard at work investigating, observing and exploring all things Erosion in preparation for the much-anticipated trip to the ESB Science Blast 2026!

After weeks of research, experiments and creative model-making, the big day finally arrived — and what a day it was!

Excitement was high as we departed at 8:10am sharp to make our way to the RDS in Dublin. There was a real buzz on the bus as everyone prepared to showcase their hard work.

Once we arrived, it was straight to business setting up our stand for the day ahead.

Our project, “Erosion: How Can We Prevent It?”, explored:

  • The impact of rainfall, wind and waves on soil

  • The links between erosion and global warming

  • How erosion affects farming and deforestation

  • Practical solutions to help protect our environment in the future

Throughout the day, the children manned their stand on a rota, confidently explaining their findings to judges, teachers and fellow students. They demonstrated fantastic teamwork, clear communication and a deep understanding of their topic.

The judges were hugely impressed, praising:

  • The group’s strong scientific method

  • Their curiosity in asking “How?” and “Why?”

  • Their creative landscape models

  • Their confident and engaging presentation skills

The feedback described the project as “a superb presentation” and commended the students for their enthusiasm and insightful recommendations for the future.

When not on stand duty, the children explored the Exhibition Zone and enjoyed interactive science experiences hosted by fantastic organisations including:

  • Dublin Zoo

  • Teagasc

  • Bohemian F.C.

There were live science shows, hands-on activities and exciting demonstrations everywhere you looked. The atmosphere was electric!

As if the day couldn’t get any better, 6th Class received a plaque in recognition of their contribution to the environment — a proud moment for everyone involved!

To top it all off, we made a very important stop on the way home at McDonald's for some well-earned refreshments after a long and exciting day.

From early morning excitement to plaque presentations and celebratory treats, ESB Science Blast 2026 was a day to remember.

We are incredibly proud of our 6th Class scientists — future engineers, inventors and environmental champions in the making!

What. A. Day. 👏✨
