Canine Care @ The Intel Grand Final.

29th Apr 2025

Tomás Ramsbottom won our school Science Fair in October 2024 when Ann Tilson & other Intel judges came to visit our school.

Tomás used his experience from 2024 along with his love of his pet dog Penny to inspire his project.

Canine Care is the development of a wellbeing wearable for dogs. Tomás was beginning to train his dog Penny and  learned that she responded best to a calm caring approach. He then wondered could he create an alternative to a ‘shock collar’ to aid in training his dog.

As his research developed he thought why not add on data storage and gps. Something very valuable when you visit the vet or if your dog gets lost.

Tomás sought out the expert advice of Donnacha Dunne to design an app and QR code to develop a prototype collar and app.

Hopefully with the help of the Canine Care Collar you will have a happy dog and happy owner. Win Win!
There were 7,000 entrants to this years mini scientist- with 80 students making it through to the Grand Final in Dublin.

Following a day of judging Scoil Mhuire Fatima was announced as the winner of the MOST INNOVATIVE IDEA!! What a massive achievement for Tomás, Penny and his family!
The future is bright.

We can’t wait to see what’s in store for Tomás.
