Who’s got Skills??
GAA Skills at Timahoe NS
Over the past number of weeks, the children of Timahoe NS have been embracing the spirit of Gaelic games by taking part in our whole-school GAA Skills Challenge. Each week focused on a different fundamental skill, giving every child the chance to learn, practice and compete in a fun and encouraging environment.
Week One kicked off with the solo, where pupils concentrated on ball control, rhythm, and balance.
Week Two saw the excitement build as the children tested their strength and technique in the long kick.
In Week Three, teamwork and accuracy were put to the test with passing, an essential skill for keeping play flowing on the pitch.
Finally, Week Four wrapped up with the punt pass, helping pupils develop precision and timing in their delivery.
Each of these skills forms a vital building block in every young player’s development. By focusing on the basics, the children grow in confidence, coordination, and enjoyment of the sport—attributes that will serve them well when they return to the playing field in the new year.
This programme has also reminded us of the importance of getting outdoors during the winter months. Fresh air, movement, and time spent outside—even on cooler days—boost mood, improve focus, and support overall wellbeing. The children have shown great energy and enthusiasm, proving that a bit of winter weather is no match for Timahoe determination!
Well done to all pupils for their effort and sportsmanship throughout the challenge. We look forward to seeing these developing skills shine on the pitch in 2025.
